Description

The transformer Switchbox is an impedance matching device for older microphones. It is functionally similar to our Transformer Matchbox but is fitted with a switch to select the output impedance or bypass the transformer. The switch allows rapid comparisons and increased versatility with different preamps.

This is ideal for matching older 50 ohm microphones to modern preamps.

Instructions for use:

Simply connect a microphone into the input XLR socket via a good balanced XLR cable. The microphone should have a maximum impedance of 50 ohms. Connect the output socket to a mic preamp using a good balanced XLR.

The switch has three positions.

BP (or ’50’ on older models).

This is bypass mode. The microphone is connected to the preamp directly.

150

The transformer is in line and the output impedance of the microphone is multiplied by 3., with a gain of +4.5 dB. A 50 ohm microphone will be transformed into a 150 ohm load at the preamp.

600

The transformer is in line and the output impedance of the microphone is multiplied by 12., with a gain of +10 dB. A 50 ohm microphone will be transformed into a 600 ohm load at the preamp.
